La Hamaca del Diablo

Randy Shull

Shull uses a wide range of Mexican imagery in this new body of work, evoking sets of enduring and complicated relationships. Old and new, past and present, privileged and powerless, near and far. The stability of the abstract architectural form meets the instability of the historical representation. Cutout eyes, crudely applied to pre-Columbian figurines and popular Mexican heroes offer the opportunity to feel the figures that look at us, or that communicate with each other.
